The Show

"Prepare to meet three of our most dangerous inmates..."

Welcome to Colney Hatch Lunatic Asylum, London 1888. A sprawling, sinister, Victorian madhouse! Take your seat as we present three of the most intriguing and dangerous inmates in this forsaken place...

Allen, poor soul, thinks he’s as sane as you or I. A dismembered corpse under the floor boards tells a different story.

“Now this is the thing – you fancy me mad? Madmen know nothing!... You should have seen how wisely I proceeded”

James waited years for the madness to consume him, and when it did, he was devoured completely!

“The spirits whispered in my ear and the blood swirled in my brain… His dark eyes flashed with horror as he realised his fate!”

Jack, deeply troubled and tormented relentlessly by his gruesome deeds and the poor victims who live on inside his head.

“I never wanted to be that monster!”

They may frighten, bewilder, or even charm you. Whatever you make of them, one thing we think you will agree – they should never, ever, be released.

Get to Know Us

Dean Wallace

With a career history that includes years working with patients at Ashworth High-Secure Psychiatric Hospital, Dean certainly has a lot to draw on!

“In creating ‘An Audience at the Asylum’ I strove to bring real-life authenticity directly to the characters invented by Edgar Allen Poe and Charles Dickens - authenticity informed by over a decade working with patients behind those walls. I want the audience to see the paranoia, the bravado, the naivety and, yes, the darkness. All of it embodied in those characters”

“I have taken those excellent stories, and blurred the line between fiction and reality”

"Of course, above all, my goal was to create a performance the was both entertaining and edgy. I think I managed it, but I’ll let you be the judge!"

And remember – we all have a little madness in us…
